In Monticello Empire League wrestling action last Wednesday at Will C. Wood, the Wildcats subdued the Rodriguez Mustangs, 42-35 to remain unbeaten in league play.
“When these two foes match up it always seems to be a tough and exciting match,” said Wood head coach Jeremy Barnett. “It took a little while for the Cats to get rolling but once they did they never looked back. Rodriguez took the lead from the onset and looked to have a stronghold on the dual until Wood’s senior leadership stepped up.”
Alex Decamp righted the ship and got the ball rolling for Wood. From there the Cats picked up forfeits and/or pins by Dominic Barnett, Ty Parado, Stephen Lukens, Conor Lenke, Michael Olague and Charlie Horton.
“Even with reduced capacity and restrictions on fan attendance, the family members at the match let the wrestlers hear their support and everyone could feel the excitement,” said Barnett.
On Saturday, the Wildcats hosted American Canyon in a non-conference meet. Picking up wins for the Cats were Autumn Garrett, Levi Crabtree, Ismael Villoria, Stephen Lukens, Conor Lenke and Michael Olague.
Wood will return to MEL action on Wednesday against Armijo High School at Armijo.
