HASBROUCK HEIGHTS/WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - Courtesy of the Last Dance Baseball tournament, high school seniors will get a chance to take the field with their teammates one more time, starting July 14.
In an event covered live by sponsor Jersey Sports Zone, the tournament brackets were released Saturday evening. The Last Dance tournament will have 32 regions and 222 teams competing. Both Hasbrouck Heights and Wood-Ridge are competing, although they are in different 4-team brackets.
Wood-Ridge is hosting the "B" side of the Wood-Ridge/Becton Regional, and is the top seed in their bracket. The Midland Park Warriors are the number two seed, with the Bogota Bucs in the third slot, and North Arlington is seeded fourth.
Hasbrouck Heights is the third seed in the Becton "A' side of the regional, with St. Mary of Rutherford getting the top seed. Lyndhurst is the two seed, while host-school Becton rounds out the bracket as the fourth seed.
The tournament is the brainchild of St. Joseph’s Metuchen Coach Mike Murray, and begin the day after the NJSIAA summer recess ends on July 13.
Each team is guaranteed a minimum of three games in modified pool play. The winner of the each of the 32 regions will advance to a single elimination tournament the following week.
While the teams are made up of what would have been this year’s varsity players, the tournament is not associated with the NJSIAA and school team uniforms cannot be worn. Several teams were not allowed to use their school name or nickname, and coaches are not allowed to be associated with the team until July 14.
