Flipping antique furniture calls for a variety of fixes including painting, staining, filling, sanding, and other things depending on the condition of the piece and your desired outcome. Furniture flipper, Lauren of Sagefield Studio, just shared a quick fix for an antique wooden dresser with a broken leg.
The key to repair isn't always replacing the legs altogether.

Apparently, casting a mold of the missing chunk on a furniture leg breeds excellent results that appropriately match the rest of the original piece.

As expected, people filled the comments section with a mix of praise, snark, and plenty of valid questions about the sustainability of this wood filler hack. The most-asked question: Why not repair the leg with wood since it will last longer? "Shame on you," one person wrote. (Sigh. You'd think Lauren ran over the wood leg repeatedly with a vehicle on Instagram Live.)

"... Using a two-part wood epoxy that can be sculpted quickly within minutes is still a very viable option for a majority of us," Lauren explained to one inquirer. "I’ve placed nails in the wood to give the wood epoxy something to grip onto so it won’t slide or break off."
While this method actually will not last as long as using wood or sawdust as several folks recommended, other commenters appreciated learning about a quick fix.
My cheesy moral of the story: There's more than one way to skin a cat. But don't skin cats. Work on great furniture projects that make you happy and fix things how you like to fix them. Your skills will grow as you grow and even if not, none of that ends the world.
