We’ve come to consider Neighbor as a top resource for teak outdoor furniture. Everything from the Arizona-based purveyor, from loungers to dining tables to Adirondack chairs, is made with the durable, mildew-resistant, weather-ready wood. That is, until now: Since the brand’s debut in 2020, cofounder and CEO Nick Arambula says that customers have been requesting their designs in a different, low-maintenance material. The aluminum Terra collection, which drops today, is exactly what they’ve been asking for.
The expansive launch consists of nine fully modular pieces—all framed in powder-coated metal. But the look and feel, Arambula offers, is decidedly soft rather than big and boxy. “One of the primary things we wanted to do with this collection was to make sure it was incredibly comfortable, like a pillow top,” says Arambula. “We wanted to increase the size and plushness and give it a tapered edge.”
While still relatively new to the DTC outdoor furniture realm, Neighbor has already made a name for itself with its Haven line, one that Arambula describes as “modern with very clean lines.” Terra doesn’t veer too far from that original script; the matte foundation prioritizes looks and is equally resistant to the elements. But it’s still plenty different. For starters, the frame is slightly slimmer, with curvier edges, and the seats are nearly two times bigger. The anti-slip bottom cushions are stuffed with even more of the same quick-drying foam that Haven has, and the backrests feature a softer fiberfill.
Those cloudlike cushions boast an exclusive stain-resistant and fade-proof Sunbrella fabric, developed in collaboration with Neighbor and made from 20% recycled materials. While all of Neighbor’s pieces are covered in Sunbrella, those in the Terra line are the only ones in which all three color choices (putty, charcoal, and olive) include yarn made from postindustrial waste. From far away, the look is decidedly monochromatic, but Arambula explains things are more interesting when you get up close and personal with the products. “There’ll be little specks of black fabric which, to me, give a super-unique look,” he adds. “Nothing is exactly the same.”
Pick out your cushy chair or sofa, and all that’s left to add is a teeny side table for your book or beverage of choice.
