MAIDEN, N.C. — A new direct-to-consumer furniture company has launched in the heart of North Carolina’s furniture country, and third-generation industry veterans are at the helm.
The e-commerce brand, Mantle Furniture, operating out of Catawba County, N.C., began operations in January of this year, led by Adrian Parker and Kim McRee, whose grandfather started Parker Southern Furniture in 1961.
In an exclusive interview with Furniture Today, Parker said that the name of the company was inspired by the family legacy to name its new business as the “mantle” of responsibility for shepherding the business that has been passed down to each generation.
“I believe the mantle is the heart of a living space. It brings families together,” said Parker. “Our companies employ 200-plus families. It is an honor to work beside them every day, and it is our responsibility to keep these factory’s flowing with orders to support them.”
The idea for Mantle Furniture became more compelling during the pandemic. Parker and McRee said they noticed an opportunity with a DTC model that allowed them to continue to serve their retail customers while also reaching online customers who are shopping from home.
“We needed to get away from the old way of thinking. People have moved online, and we are finding a balance between this online presence and our retailers,” McRee told Furniture Today. “I think one thing that helps with consumers who may have reservations about the online side of it is that they are assured by our 30-day return policy; although, we have not had any returns.
“We are slowly adding new features, such as our ready-to-ship items, and we are looking to sell to the design trade and generating that as we have had several designers reach out to us,” she added.
With customization in mind, Mantle offers seven configurations on sectionals, six sizes on sofas and love seats, 71 fabrics and four different finishes.
Some of the signature groups include:
- The Burke collection is a lounge-style design crafted with clean lines and extreme comfort in mind.
- The Ruby collection is rooted in tradition and brings a sophisticated twist to a classic slope arm.
- The Tavern table is crafted with red oak and a hand-rubbed matte finish that highlights the woods individual grains. This table is available in many forms such as a square coffee table, a round coffee table, a rectangular coffee table and a round side table.
- The Miles floor cushions are functional in their stacking and storability, with the option of a tanned leather handle feature. Three of the Miles floor cushions fit inside of the 18-inch Tavern round side table and come in 71 fabric options.
Mantle Furniture is currently working on four-to-six-week lead times and is offering free, white glove delivery on all items with seven days to cancel, 30 days to return and free swatches on all their fabrics.
“Just to be clear to our commitment to our retail customers, Mantle is a customer of our family’s companies,” Parker noted. “We will never forget our retail partners that have supported us through the years. We have a full line of new product to bring to the High Point market in the fall.”
