HIGH POINT — While the industry’s supply chain woes and unprecedented post-pandemic demand have amplified the importance of in-stock merchandise, many case goods and occasional resources are coming to this week’s market with an array of new products across all key categories.

But there’s one important difference. Many exhibitors will be touting the best of both worlds by promoting new product that already is in stock. They realize that few dealers will be willing to wait until the next High Point market — or even later — to take delivery of goods ordered at the current show.

“Our customers always are looking for something new when they come to market, and I don’t think this show will be any different.” said Jose Palacios, president of sales at Furniture of America.

Furniture of America, like many other case goods and occasional exhibitors, has trimmed back the number of new SKUs in its showroom and worked hard to ensure that most, if not all of the new items, already are in stock.

“In this environment, we wanted to stay very tight with our introductions, but we went deeper across all of our categories,” said Tim Newlin, vice president of product management at Flexsteel. “We ordered early, and we’re in very good shape (with in-stock merchandise).”

The in-stock list includes Flexsteel’s new Chevron collection, a lineup of bedroom, dining room, home office and occasional furniture that will be available in two finishes on a container-direct basis or from the company’s network of domestic warehouses. It’s also the company’s first solid wood collection.

Brad Cates, president and CEO of Sarreid, said his company will be touting its new position as a whole-home resource by launching five bedroom groups that have been patterned after successful occasional pieces, a category that has long been the company’s strong suit.

And like many other resources, most of the new merchandise already is in stock.

“We’re very excited about market,” Cates said. “We’re very excited about where our business is because we’re gaining market share.”

Show it; they will come

Cates said he’s concerned market attendance could be light because of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in many parts of the country, but Newlin and Palacios believe it will be close to “normal” because the fall market is returning to its typical October dates. Plus, they believe dealers and interior designers are anxious to resume traveling — just like consumers — and want to be able to see and touch furniture again.

“It will be the first time we’ve had our entire sales force together since before the pandemic,” said Newlin.

Palacios said Furniture of America has received “very good feedback” from market invitations distributed by its sales force and he’s confident the company’s decision to substantially increase in-stock merchandise at its Vietnam warehouse will be rewarded with orders at market.

“I feel it will be way better than the June show,” he said, referring to the postponed spring High Point Market.

The company’s case goods introductions will focus on bedroom and dining room, including the Laurentian bedroom group, which has minimalist styling, and the more traditional Lombardy dining set.

Dining room also is taking the spotlight at Hekman, who is rolling out the Linwood collection. The company said it’s a simple, timeless design that takes its cue from the Regency period in England from 1800 to 1830, an era that featured flat surfaces and minimal carvings. It’s constructed of mindi solids and veneers.

Hooker Furniture, meanwhile, is launching two whole-home collections, Serenity and Linville Falls. Serenity is constructed of white oak and is inspired by the relaxed lifestyles of waterfront living, while Linville Falls takes on the aura of a rustic mountain cabin. It is constructed of split oak, and like Serenity, is available in two finishes.

Three new bedroom and dining room collections are on tap at Riverside. The Hailey collection is made of solid pine and features classic cottage styling with an updated and relaxed vibe, while the traditional Anniston collection mixes a casual, wire-brushed light gray finish with softly shaped serpentine cases and details such as heavy crown molding on the bed, turned legs and nailhead trim.

Riverside’s third new collection, Cora, offers a fresh take on modern farmhouse styling by adding a coastal flair.

At Hurtado, the spotlight is on the new Bond collection, which includes bedroom and occasional pieces. The collection features geometric shapes and irregular plates and is available in a variety of metal and marble top options. It will ship about 90 days after market.

Key occasional furniture resource Moe’s Home Collection, meanwhile, has more than a dozen new coffee tables, nightstands and sideboards to show market attendees, while Zuo Modern has approximately two dozen new occasional tables, office chairs and accent chairs in its showroom.

Other key introductions include six new collections at Legacy Classic and two new platform beds and a new dining set at Modway. Four of the Legacy Classic entries include bedroom, dining room and occasional pieces, while the new Modway platform beds feature upholstered headboards.
