PAHOA – For the second time in as many meets, Kealakehe’s Cozette Wood and Waiakea’s Kederang Ueda led the way at this week’s BIIF cross country meet.
Ueda was able to fend off a pack of Kealakehe runners – Levi Childers, Aiden Ankru, Cameron Cornforth and Archer Ankrum – as well as Waiakea teammate Austin Mohica to get the win in 15:51.75. Childers (16:10.28), Aiden Ankrum (16:20.58) and Cornforth (16:21.85) finished in second, third and fourth, respectively, while Mohica rounded out the top five with a time of 16:32.65
As a team, Kealakehe’s total of 27 bested Waiakea’s 44 and Hawaii Prep’s 49. The top Ka Makani finisher was Parker Smith, who crossed the line in seventh with a time of 17:02.56.
On the girls’ side, Wood’s time of 19:07.17 was nearly 21 seconds faster than second-place finisher Kekaihulali Halpern of Hilo (19:28.09).
Waiakea posted the lowest team score of 31, led by Kiralynn Kuramoto (19:52.23) in third, Shanay Ha’a (20:13.42) in fourth, Lia Ho (21:22.47) in seventh and Taarini Godbole in eighth (21:23.36). Waiakea bested Hawaii Prep’s 46; HPA’s fastest finisher was Wynter Radey-Morgan (20:25.98) in fifth place.
Saturday marked the first cross country meet at Pahoa in nearly 25 years.
