NORWALK, Ohio – Custom upholstery manufacturer Norwalk Furniture will highlight multiple function in seating with several new pieces for this week’s High Point Market.

Responding to consumers’ desires to utilize their living space in multifunctional ways, the new pieces are designed for a variety of room sizes and configurations. Those new goods, available in more than 800 fabric and 100 leather options, can be seen in Norwalk’s showroom in the International Home Furnishings Center, space M-108.

“Offering products that will suit a variety of spaces is all about designing pieces with accessibility, comfort, style and purpose in mind,” said Norwalk President Caroline Hipple in a release. “All too often, the constraint of a space limits us. With multi-functional furniture it’s not only about adapting to the situation but also about optimizing the space. Our newest introductions allow the furniture to multitask within a room with designs that are flexible, while adding a new level of comfort – all without compromising on style.”

Highlights of the functional approach include:

  • The Gastonia sofa, a conversation sofa designed with a curved profile and comfortable tight back and seat that makes it a transitional piece that can float within a room.
  • The triangular Apex storage ottoman, designed to accommodate the space formed by an L-shaped sectional with padded side panels, button details and a removable top for convenient hidden storage.
  • The moderately-scaled Madison chair with serpentine front rail, and embracing arms, suitable for use in pairs and in spaces that call for a smaller silhouette.
  • The traditional Wilmington chair, characterized by a gentle curve of the front arms and a dramatic drop of the back sew line. Subtle design elements let Wilmington transition into more modern spaces.

I'm Powell Slaughter, senior editor at Furniture/Today. I returned to the publication in January 2015 after nine years of writing about furniture retail strategies and best practices at a monthly magazine focusing on home furnishings retail operations. Prior to that, I spent 10 years with F/T covering wood furniture, the last five of those as case goods editor. Upon my return to F/T, I developed coverage of the logistical and service aspects of the furniture industry as well as following the occasional, home office and home entertainment categories. In April 2018 I took over the upholstery category, with responsibility for coverage of the fabric and leather stationary and motion upholstery, recliners and massage chair categories.
