Flexsteel’s new Chevron collection includes dining room constructed of solid pine.
DUBUQUE, Iowa — North American residential furniture giant Flexsteel Inds. has launched its first solid wood home furniture collection.
Set to debut at the upcoming High Point Market, the Chevron collection includes bedroom, dining, occasional and home office furniture constructed of solid pine. Features include soft-close drawers, light sensor switches built into headboards and subtle V-shaped pattern details.
“Historically, we launch a bedroom group first and then build on its success over time with the addition of correlated dining and home office collections at subsequent markets,” said Tim Newlin, Flexsteel’s vice president of product management, in a blog announcing the collection. “Our goal with Chevron is to make it easier for retailers to make a major impact on their floors, refreshing their assortment with pieces that work cohesively throughout the home.
“At the same time, feedback from our dealers throughout the past year-and-a-half has made it clear that consumers now are seeking better quality goods across the board, and we know they equate solid wood with higher quality.”
Newlin told Furniture Today: “Solid wood resonates with consumers in times of uncertainty. Consumers like things that are real and easily explained.”
Chevron is available in a choice of two finishes, Stone and Ebony, which Flexsteel believes play well with each other.
In the bedroom category, Chevron is set to retail from $1,850 to $2,400 for a four-piece set with a queen bed, while the queen and king beds will range from $620 to $890.
Dining options play to consumers’ desire for less formal spaces with plenty of options and, in particular, smaller-space solutions. This marks a departure for Flexsteel, which typically has focused on traditional looks with leaf extensions.
The company also is finding that consumers are frequently mixing design elements and styles, like classic and contemporary, modern and traditional, and high-contrast looks with dark tables and light seating. Chevron addresses this with multiple chair styles, a bench option, and thicker tabletops.
“We’re really excited about the new occasional groups because we believe the solid wood option at value price points will be unique to us in the marketplace,” Newlin wrote in the blog.
In the home office category, Flexsteel designed Chevron for those without large, dedicated home office spaces. That means desks that can be easily tucked away.
Flexsteel will debut the collection in its High Point showroom in the International Home Furnishings Center, space C-558 and C-602A.
Flexsteel has been on the upswing as of late, recently reporting a 110% increase in fourth quarter sales over the same period last year. The company has also been working on a major effort to restructure and rebrand, exiting the hospitality and RV furniture markets in 2020 and initiating a brand refresh in August to attract younger customers.
“We are competing well and gaining market share,” President and CEO Jerry Dittmer said in Flexsteel’s fourth quarter earnings release. “We’ve been building growth momentum throughout fiscal 2021 and finished the year strong.”
Dittmer did warn though that global supply issues could create issues for the company’s first half profit results for fiscal 2022.
