More Pleats, Please

This market, Curated Kravet introduced the I Create custom lampshade program, inviting designers to create personalized fixtures using the fabric house’s material selection—linens, silks, velvets, prints, and grasscloths included. Tailoring the fixture to each project’s needs is simple (and quick—with two-to-four-week lead times), with your choice of empire, drum, square, or oval shade shapes, plus the option of stretched, gathered, or box-pleat styles. Choosing the latter? Might we recommend Baker’s darling new Madame occasional chair, fully upholstered with a box-pleated slip skirt, to match?

Fluted Repeats

The repetitive, wavelike tide of fluted designs can be a common sighting at Market. (We’ve been taking note of the trend for years.) But there’s something about this season’s crop that feels a bit more organic, as though formed by an artisan hand. The Fluted Column vase set from Global Views, the Elkins mirror by Meg Braff for Wildwood, and the Modulum panel nightstand by Bernhardt make the case in a plaster white finish, while the fluid form surrounds the Malta cocktail and side tables by Milling Road by Baker.

Basketweave Patterns

The simplest of weave structures, the basketweave’s uniform warp and weft fosters a familiar rhythm. It’s the case particularly when using a wide material, where the over-under tempo produces a richly tactile surface. The new Lakewood bench by Arteriors and Global Views’ Soft Woven leather basket show off the timeless weave, while Carrier and Company’s new Harrison collection rug for Loloi takes inspiration from the classic pattern.
