Prep volleyball roundup: Vacaville, Will C. Wood, Vanden all win - Vacaville Reporter

The Vacaville High School varsity volleyball team defeated Roseville, Rio Americano, Pioneer, Davis to win the Davis Fall Classic on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (12-3, 6-1) then swept Armijo 25-23, 25-18, 25-6 on Tuesday.

The offense was run by Emma Johnson with 17 assists.  Mackenzie Godden had eight kills and two blocks.  Reese Rogers and Kyra Gossett each had nine service receptions. Gossett led the defense with 11 digs. Mea Todd was 21-for-21 behind the service line with three aces.

Vaca’s junior varsity team won 25-9, 25-1 with a 24-point serving run from Chelsea Tamayo.

The Bulldogs’ freshman team won 25-3, 25-2.  Audrey Duffy had 18 consecutive serves with 14 aces in the first set. Jada Madamba served the last 21 points to close the second set, including 18 aces.

Vacaville faces Rodriguez on Thursday at home.

Wood 3, Rodriguez 1

The Will C. Wood High girls volleyball team rallied for a 11-25, 25-23, 25-22, 27-25 win over Rodriguez in a tight MEL match on Tuesday.

“We switched some things up tonight and attacked hard on our right side with Jaiden Austin who went for 11 kills on the night with 12 attempts.  She also led our team in assists with 29,” said Wood coach Paige McConlogue.

The back row was outstanding with Julia Meek’s 24 digs and Cristina Collazo’s 21 digs. Maddy Moorehead finished with 11 kills.

“Tonight was a great team win and puts us in a great spot for playoffs,” McConlogue said.

The Wildcats improved to 4-7 overall, 4-3 in the MEL. They are at Fairfield on Thursday.

The Mustangs dropped to 6-11 overall, 2-2 in the league.

Vanden 3, Fairfield 0

The Vanden High School girls volleyball team swept Fairfield 25-4, 25-15, 25-22 on Tuesday as the Vikings stayed in a first-place tie with Vacaville in the MEL standings.

Breanna Davis was 22-for-22 at the service line and had three aces for the Vikings (8-2, 6-1). Sumerlyn Spencer had 13 digs, four aces and was 9 of 10 at the line. Audrey Alexander had nine digs, three aces and was 9 of 10 at the line.

Kelsey Wall led the offense with seven kills. Soleil Sands finished with three aces and was 8 of 9 at the line. Francesca King was 10 of 12 at the line.

“Our first two sets ran extremely smoothly,” said Vanden head coach Cindy Scolavino. “Communication was high. The girls were working well together and very focused. Set three or communication wore down slightly and it took us a bit to regroup.”

Vanden’s next match is Thursday at Armijo.

Buckingham 3, Cristo Rey 0

Buckingham Charter played a road match against Cristo Rey in Sacramento and returned to its winning ways with a 25-20, 27-25 and 25-16 win on Tuesday.

The Knights were led by their defense with Klaudine Canlobo collecting six digs while Brook Maurice added four.

On offense Adrianna Butcher had 11 aces, five assists and two kills. Maurice had three aces, five assists and two kills. Canlobo added six aces.

Wyievee Binda came through with another consistent performance in the middle with four aces, three assists, seven kills, and four blocks.

Buckingham improved to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in Sacramento Metropolitan League play. The Knights travel to Yuba City to take on Faith Christian on Thursday.
