BRADENTON, FL

April 05, 1940 – Aug. 31, 2021

Harriet passed away Aug. 31, 2021, after a brief illness.

Harriet grew up in Provencal with her family and extended family. This foundation of the cored values she learned continued and grew throughout her life. She was always positive, kind, generous, thoughtful, caring, loving and charming. She graduated from Provencal High School and Northwestern University.

She is pre-deceased by her parents, Nezzie Nichols Foshee (mother) and Coleman Foshee (father); her brothers, Billy Ray, Wayne, Charles and Jerry, Meade Miller and sister-in-law Linda Miller. She is also predeceased by her husband, Andrew W. Wood.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Phelan; brothers, Oscar, Bob Miller and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Miller; children, Alesia, Diane, Thomas and Michael, and her stepchildren, Jim (Debbie) Phelan, Kelly (David) Barnhart, Kathleen Phelan (Tony Catalanotto), Tom (Carol) Wood, Diane Wood, and David (Kathy) Wood; grandchildren, Alexandra (Jon Nocera) Palmer, Natalie Mannarino (James Northup) and Nickolas Mannarino, Tyler and Michael Phelan and Jack Barnhart, who were all her pride, joy and heart. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including spouses whom she enjoyed and loved unconditionally.

Harriet was a shining light to everyone she met and shared her sparkle and joy with them.  She had a zest for life, an infectious smile and laugh that was also contagious.  It was pure joy to be in her presence. She loved life, entertaining, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Harriet resided at River Wilderness Golf and Country Club in Bradenton, Fla., and would enjoy spending summers at their Cottage in Westport, Mass. At River Wilderness, Harriet was part of the Women’s Golf League and champion player at the club, was bookkeeper for the Villas and a previous member of Mohawk Golf Club in Niskayuna, NY. In addition, she enjoyed her friends, Bunco group and Red Hat ladies. Baking for her family was also something Harriet loved doing, especially for her grandchildren, making each one their favorite.

Harriet loved and cherished her family and friends and traveling to visit them.  It was a privilege and honor to have her in our lives.  We raise a glass and toast to you and thank you for all you have done for us.  We celebrate and love you.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 17 from 5-7 p.m. and again Saturday from 8-10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Provencal. A service to honor her life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at the church.  Interment will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Vowells Mill.
