SAN BRUNO, CA – The West Coast Conference has named Loyola Marymount University Lions forward Creggton Charlton and defender Christian Wood Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for September 7, 2021.
Charlton, playing in his first season for the Lions, scored the game-winning goal in LMU's 2-1 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Friday night. With just under three minutes to go in overtime, Charlton fired a shot past the CSUF goalkeeper giving LMU the victory. For the week Charlton had one goal, two assists while putting up 10 shots with four shots on goal.
Wood provided the game-winning assist in a 1-0 overtime win against UC Irvine on Sunday afternoon. Wood's corner, in the fourth minute of overtime, found Jack Sauls who headed in the pass to win the game for LMU. Wood played every minute in the Lions two games over the weekend and anchors a defense that surrendered one goal in 200 minutes on the pitch over their past two matches.
The Lions went 2-0-1 for the week and as a result have moved up in the United Soccer Coaches rankings to 11th in the nation.
LMU returns to Sullivan Field Thursday, September 9th to take on Cal State Northridge with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
