The Michigan State Spartans women’s basketball team got exciting news on Monday evening, as 2023 four-star forward Jordan Wood gave her verbal commitment to MSU via Twitter.
The 6-foot-2 forward hails from Waukegan, Illinois and plays for Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois, located to the north of Chicago. Back in her freshman season, Wood averaged 14.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
Wood is described as an agile rebounder who can play as a finesse-four and attack in the transition game. She can stretch the defense with her play from the arc and has lots of potential as she continues to grow in her game.
Wood is a highly-rated prospect, clocking in at No. 35 overall and sporting a four-star (94 grade) ranking in the ESPN Class of 2023 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings — Super 60. She ranks even higher in Prep Girls Hoops at No. 15 nationally, and is also listed there as 6-foot-4, so we will see what the roster lists her as at Michigan State for the 2023-2024 season.
Wood picked the Michigan State Spartans over plenty of Division I offers, including several fellow Big Ten programs. The Michigan Wolverines, Illinois Fighting Illini, Ohio State Buckeyes, Wisconsin Badgers and Minnesota Golden Gophers. Other schools outside of the conference were also interested, as DePaul, Marquette, UCLA, Florida State, Florida, Arizona and Arizona State all made offers to Wood, among others.
While 2023 is still a long way away, Wood’s excitement about attending Michigan State after her official visit in East Lansing this year is exciting for Spartans fans!
