SEFFNER, Fla. – Canyon Furniture Co. has recalled about 1,200 five-drawer chests sold at retailer Rooms To Go due to a tip-over and entrapment hazard.
No injuries or incidents have been reported involving the units. However, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said they are unstable if not anchored to the wall, meaning they can tip-over and potentially injure or kill young children that climb on the chests to reach something in the upper drawers or on the top surface.
The CPSC also said the chests do not comply with performance requirements of the voluntary industry standard, ASTM-2057-19. Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the recalled units and contact Rooms To Go for a free repair, replacement or full refund on the purchase price. This can be in the form of a Rooms To Go store credit, which includes a free pick-up of the chest.
The retailer also is contacting all known purchasers directly.
The recall involves the Creekside kids five-drawer chest, which was sold in charcoal and chestnut finishes. They are about 43.5 inches tall, 31.5 inches wide and 18 inches deep and have SKU numbers 34595035 for the charcoal version and 34495045 for the chestnut version.
They also show the manufacture date in a month, day and year format, which is printed on a label on the back of each unit.
Made in Mexico between April 2020 and March 2021, the units were imported by Canyon Furniture of Seffner, Fla., and sold at Rooms To Go stores nationwide and at www.roomstogo.com between April 2020 and March 2021 for about $430.
For more information, consumers can call the retailer toll-free at (855) 688-0919 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday; email productcare@roomstogo.com; or visit www.roomstogo.com and click on the customer service tab at the bottom of the page.

I'm Tom Russell and have worked at Furniture/Today since August 2003. Since then, I have covered the international side of the business from a logistics and sourcing standpoint. Since then, I also have visited several furniture trade shows and manufacturing plants in Asia, which has helped me gain perspective about the industry in that part of the world. As I continue covering the import side of the business, I look forward to building on that knowledge base through conversations with industry officials and future overseas plant tours. From time to time, I will file news and other industry perspectives online and, as always, welcome your response to these Web postings.
