No word yet if he’ll be charging anything to the Underhill’s bill, but comedian Roy Wood has joined the cast of “Confess, Fletch,” according to Deadline.
The film stars “Mad Men” hottie Jon Hamm as the titular investigative journalist based, on novelist Gregory McDonald’s mystery series from the ’70s. Chevy Chase played the lead role in two previous comedy film hits inspired by that series,1985′s “Fletch” and 1989′s “Fletch Lives.”
According to Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro, the “Confess, Fletch” plot involves Fletch as the prime suspect of a murder investigation. While attempting prove his innocence, Fletch must also find a stolen art collection.
Wood, who grew up in Birmingham, will play the role of Detective Monroe, who suspects Fletch of being the murderer. Wood is known for his stand-up comedy career and his work as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s “Daily Show.”
The “Confess, Fletch” cast also includes Marcia Gay Harden and Kyle MacLachlan. Greg Mottola, of Superbad” fame, is directing the film for Miramax. Shooting is scheduled to begin Monday.
