ARCHBOLD, Ohio – RTA manufacturer Sauder has introduced a new division called Sauder Commercial Office that aims to provide commercial grade office furniture for both commercial and residential environments.

The company said that its new trademarked Sauder Commercial Office segment includes several new lines that are designed and tested to meet commercial office standards. The company said the line also offers an upgrade in configurability and durability over standard home office products.

It features three product lines that include the trademarked Office Works and Worksense, as well as Commercial Extensions, all of which offer products designed to “meet the diverse needs of today’s consumer and business customer.”

The company said it has been introducing various commercial grade specs into its residential office line for several years to address shifting work habits.

“Even before the pandemic dramatically shifted work patterns and environments, we saw a growing trend toward remote work, satellite offices and shared workspaces,” said Mike Lambright, senior director of marketing at Sauder. “Consequently, our development into this arena has been in the works for several years, and we have been ‘quietly’ launching commercial grade product into our residential furniture line since 2016.”

The company said that the line also meets or exceeds ANSI/BIFMA compliance for “safety, durability and structural integrity.”

“These products represent a performance upgrade to our standard residential offerings and include designs that play well in work-at-home environments,” Lambright added. “Fully assembled items and pre-assembled components like drawers and desk pedestals offer a level of convenience and ease of installation, as well.”

Designed for small to mid-sized offices, Office Works features fully assembled pedestals that are added to various combinations of desk shells and hutches. The design aims to offer easy installation and functionality for end users.

The initial Affirm collection in a classic cherry finish has 10 pieces, including fully assembled file pedestals and lateral file units. There are also L-shaped desks, standard and executive desks with file pedestal storage, a bookshelf with storage and desk/hutch combinations.

Features include full extension metal drawer slides, adjustable shelving, desktop grommets for cord management and adjustable base levelers to keep surfaces of different pieces aligned at the same height. Retail prices begin at $284.99 for a 42-inch desk return. Two alternative finishes – light and dark elm – will be available by year end.

Worksense by Sauder offers extended configurability and pre-assembled components that aim to provide easy planning and installation. Both pre-assembled and partially assembled pieces feature durable melamine surfaces and impact-resistant thermoplastic edge protection.

Two new collections in this segment include the 10-piece Mason Peak and the 10-piece Palo Alto.

Mason Peak has farmhouse design elements and is available in a natural prime oak finish with black rustic hardware. Starting at $304.99 for a library base cabinet, the collection includes an executive desk, multiple credenza desks, the library base, a lateral file cabinet and more. The group is configurable due the number of desk and credenza options and other add-on accessories. It also offers standard features such as adjustable shelves, full-extension metal drawer slides, key lock drawers and cord management grommets.

Palo Alto has Mid-Century Modern styling, including slatted molding detail, and is available in a spiced mahogany finish. With prices starting at $339.99 for a library base cabinet, it includes a variety of credenzas, computer desks, L-shaped desks, and storage options including the library bases and lateral files.

A pre-assembled lateral file and partially assembled desk pedestals and drawers  allow for quicker assembly and set up. Pieces also features desktop grommets for cord management, adjustable shelving, full-extension drawer slides and locking drawer storage.

Commercial Extensions offer upgrades that serve as a complement to existing residential office furniture collections in a variety of styles, ranging from coastal and transitional to Mid-Century Modern and rustic, as well as add-ons to larger Worksense installations in matching styles.
