On its home court on Wednesday, the Will C. Wood girls volleyball team downed the Armijo Royals in four sets, 25-11, 14-25, 25-24, 25-23.

It was the first Monticello Empire League match for both teams.

“We are super excited to be back on the court competing,” said Wood first-year coach Paige McConlogue. “Tonight we came out serving super tough and getting Armijo out of system.”

Jaiden Austin served seven aces for the Wildcats and teammate Hannah DelRio had a big net presence with five blocks. Setters Cristina Collazo and Kennedy Morgan moved the ball around well in combining for 30 assists.

Taylor Ford led the Wood offense with nine kills, while libero Julia Meek led the defense with 12 digs.

The Wildcat junior varsity swept the Royal JV in straight sets.

“I really enjoyed my first game as a Wildcat,” said McConlogue, who came to Wood after coaching at Armijo for several years, “and I’m looking forward to the upcoming season.”

Wood hosts Rodriguez on Tuesday, April 6 at 5 p.m.
