Golf icon Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a car crash in LA on Feb. 23. The 15-time major champion was rushed to the hospital after the crash, as he required emergency surgery.

While everyone is relieved that Tiger Woods is still alive, the latest update from the car crash reveals how devastating it really was.

Tiger Woods underwent surgery on his lower right leg and ankle

After being rushed to the hospital following the car crash, Tiger Woods underwent several hours of emergency surgery to repair what doctors called “significant orthopedic injuries” to his lower right leg and ankle. The golf legend suffered open fractures in the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula of his right leg.

Woods was awake, responsive, and recovering after surgery. He suffered trauma to the muscle and soft tissue of his right leg. Sports fans are grateful that Woods will be able to walk again after this frightening crash.

According to LA Sheriffs, Woods was involved in a single-car accident near the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes in LA. He was the sole occupant of a 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV and driving at a greater speed than normal.

LA County Sheriff Deputy Carlos Gonzalez said Tiger Woods is fortunate to have survived the crash.

Tiger Woods didn’t remember driving

Tiger Woods told deputies after his car crash that he didn’t remember driving or how the wreck happened. He said the same thing at the hospital as well.

“Driver said he did not know and did not even remember driving,” Deputy Johann Schoegl said in the affidavit. “Driver was treated for his injuries at the hospital and was asked there again how the collision occurred. He repeated that he did not know and did not remember driving.”

The police did not seek a warrant to obtain a sample of Woods’ blood to see if he was under the influence of anything. However, it’s horrifying to hear that Woods doesn’t remember driving.

Woods was headed to Rolling Hills Country Club when he crashed his car. He was scheduled to work with LA Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and New Orleans Saints superstar gunslinger Drew Brees for a photoshoot.

Tiger Woods, who has a dark history with car crashes and was arrested on a DUI charge in 2017, will not face charges from this crash.

Will he ever play golf again?

It’s hard to give a definite answer, but no one knows if Tiger Woods will play golf again. On Dec. 23, 2020, he underwent his fifth back procedure.

Woods will likely need several more procedures on his legs. He told CBS announcer Jim Nantz that he was hoping to play in the Masters in April. That was before the car crash occurred.

The golf world wants to see Woods play again. More than anything, though, they want Woods to be mentally and physically stable for his 12-year-old son Charlie. In his last public golf event, the PNC Championship, Woods played with Charlie.

There’s a chance we have seen the last of Tiger Woods on the golf course. However, everyone is thankful we haven’t seen the last of him in the world.
