Though Rockets center Christian Wood’s production in the four games since he returned to the lineup has mirrored his play before the 17 games he missed with a sprained ankle, Rockets guard John Wall said he has seen — or actually, heard — a difference.
“It all starts with me and C-Wood being the best players on the team, we have to bring that approach,” Wall said. “Since he came back from injury and he had to miss some time, he’s talking more. He’s more vocal than when he first got here. That’s a great sign for us, him being a leader and also with me, the approach we have to have if we want to be the two guys to help this franchise get back to winning and making the playoffs.”
Wood agreed that he has sought to be more outspoken with his teammates.
“I’m stepping into a leadership role … which is fine,” Wood said. “I know that I have to sacrifice for the team and I have to do stuff off the court for the team and on the court for the team. One of the things on the court is being vocal and being that anchor for our defense and our offense.
“I think I’ve been doing a great job of that and I can only get better at such a young age (25.) I feel like I can lead this team.”
