Best days behind us
EDITOR: I am a political centrist. I belong to no party yet participate in elections, voting for candidates I believe are likely to do the best job.
Your Jan. 14 editorial is incomplete. Not mentioned are divisive actions of others.
From the first, Americans were told that Trump won the presidency with help from Russia. Numerous costly investigations began. Congressmen and news anchors told us there was proof and we would see it. We never did.
In the last year we witnessed Nancy Pelosi ripping up the president’s union address. We have seen the lack of respect for private property as mobs burned and looted, depriving others of rights — while Democrat elected leaders allowed it to go on, and main stream media called them “mostly peaceful.” Kamala Harris asked for us to contribute to the bail for those arrested during these events. Many Democrats called for defunding the police; Americans of all colors worried that law and order was a thing of the past.
When the Washington Post reported that Biden’s son has questionable Chinese connections, Twitter blocked the story. Other news media gave it a pass too. Same with the Congressman who was a sucker to Chinese spying. Not getting information makes one believe that news and Tech are biased and not to be trusted.
These are also reasons for divisiveness. Binding our wounds would require fair news coverage, and conciliatory behavior from Democrats and Republicans. That is unlikely to happen. America’s best days are behind us.
