Losing one of your guys in free agency is always tough as a baseball team. But when that player goes to a division rival, it stings a little bit more. That’s what the Dodgers face with Alex Wood as he heads up north to pitch for the Giants.
Wood signed a one-year deal with San Francisco that will pay him $3 million, a huge deal for the Giants. More importantly, it will give Wood to be a full-time starter for the first time in a few years. Wood was not given that opportunity in his second go-around with the Dodgers.
But regardless of where he signed, Wood will always be loved by Dodgers fans. He posted his goodbye to Los Angeles today, thanking the city and the team for the opportunity. Wood also made sure to mention the World Series championship, and how grateful he was to reach the pinnacle with that team.
After being traded to the Reds in 2018, Wood re-signed with the Dodgers this season on a 1-year deal. Originally set to become a potential fifth starter, Wood faced shoulder issues that shut him down for parts of the shortened season. He ended up throwing just 12.2 innings during the regular season.
But it was in the Dodgers playoff run that Wood made his mark on the 2020 season. He made 4 appearances between the NLCS and World Series, allowing a total of 1 run over 6.2 innings of work.
