With Christian Wood’s return to the floor last week against the Spurs and in the weekend’s scrimmages, Rockets veteran center DeMarcus Cousins returned to his praise not just of Wood’s play, but of what he can be.
Cousins renewed his comparison to the Lakers’ All-NBA star Anthony Davis, just as Rockets guard Eric Gordon, who like Cousins is a former teammate of Davis’ in New Orleans, had last week.
“He’s just a guy that’s full of potential,” Cousins said of Wood. “I don’t even think C-Wood knows how good he can really be. But us being veterans on the team, that’s our job, help him reach that level, help him untap that potential. I think he has all the intangibles.
“He has a lot of similarities to Anthony Davis in LA. The height, the ability to guard all five positions, just the versatility on both ends of the floor. Obviously, I’m not saying he’s the same player as AD, but he definitely has the potential to become a player of that caliber. That’s our job to help bring that out.”
