ENGLEWOOD — Water main work under Wood Street in West Englewood is underway, with traffic and parking implications for residents.
Work on the West Englewood Water Main Project began in the 6100 Block of South Wood Street Oct. 13. It will continue between 59th and 63rd streets until January, according to a Department of Water Management spokesperson.
Benchmark Construction will disconnect over 332 feet of water main at the intersection of 62nd and Wood streets. Crews will later install 2,605 feet of eight-inch water main along the South Wood corridor.
The west side of Wood — including any damaged parkways and sidewalks — will be resurfaced.
Residents in the area should prepare for restricted parking on a block by block basis as construction progresses. The two-way traffic on Wood Street will be impacted, as cars will be flagged through on the east side of the road one direction at a time. The same will apply for the intersection crossings at 60th, 61st and 62nd streets.
Traffic on the arterial streets of 59th and 63rd are not expected to be impacted, the Water Department spokesperson said.
