Washington, N.C. – More than $9,000 has been donated so far in a pair of GoFundMe pages set up to support Bear Creek Woodworks. The custom woodworking business’ shop was destroyed in an early morning fire on July 22.

The larger of the two GoFundMe campaigns was created on July 22 by Matthew White had achieved $7,075 of its $10,000 goal as of Aug. 2.

“Last night, Lee’s pride and joy, Bear Creek Woodworks, a business he built by himself with just a chainsaw in the beginning, was burned to the ground and he lost everything,” White wrote. “Lee has developed his business into a multifaceted woodworking shop with products ranging from cutting boards, to custom furniture to boat decking. He works with just about any kind of wood you can imagine and can make anything that you can dream up or imagine. Anyone that knows Lee is devastated. We know how much time and passion he has poured into this business. This year, he finally had the business expanding and has been doing steady work for multiple clients.”

The second GoFundMe campaign was created by family members of Bear Creek's owner. As of Aug. 2, it had raised $2,265 toward a $2,500 goal.

According to the Washington Daily News, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
