CANOVA -- The Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks never relinquished its early lead, as it won a Cornbelt League pitcher’s duel against Canova, 3-1, on Sunday.
Jake Ellens hit a three-run double in the second inning, which proved to be the decisive runs. Rob Lind paced Humboldt/Hartford at the plate with four hits. Drew Eldeen pitched a complete game, striking out five batters and holding the Gang to two earned runs on 10 hits.
Jared Miller fanned 12 batters for Canova and had two hits at the plate. Jason Miller went 2-for-4 with a double, while Tim Gassman recorded two hits.
Humboldt/Hartford (4-2 Cornbelt League) plays the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks on Friday in Humboldt. Canova (5-3 Cornbelt League) hosts Madison on Thursday.
