Fall orientation is underway at John Wood Community College, as students prepare for changes during this pandemic.
50 families and students showed up for orientation today at JWCC.
Many stepping on campus for the first time.
And others returning like Isaac Wood.
"It definitely feels good to come back to campus. It's going to be weird for a while, but it definitely feels good to be back," Wood said.
Wood says, as a sophomore, he's able to help show new students around, but even for him this year is different.
"I feel this year it's needed more than ever because it's something that we never seen before and it's going to be so different from what my orientation was," Wood added.
JWCC's Dean of Students, Tracy Orne, says despite stepping into uncharted territory, it feels great to have students back.
"Orientation has evolved quite a bit, we're going to have smaller groups of students of course to allow for physical distancing. They will be asked to wear a mask of course… but I think it will be more intimate that way," Orne said.
She says like orientation, classes and rooms will also look different, being rearranged to maintain social distancing.
"Depending on what you're comfortable with. We have socially distanced in person classes, flex classes where you're only here a handful of times throughout the semester and also online classes, so we're trying to make sure we have options and accessibility for everyone," Orne explained.
Wood says he's taking advantage of those options by enrolling in flex classes.
"They're cutting down the classes, making sure everyone is six feet apart they're making masks required and all that so I feel pretty safe," Wood said.
JWCC officials say it's not too late to register for one of their other orientations and encourage people that can't make it in person to register for a virtual session.
Officials say for those that missed today's orientation, there will also be sessions on August 6th and August 13th.
