designer ruhan chen has created the ’roundness TV cabinet’ for chinese furniture brand ziihome, combining solid wood with bent resin panels. the appearance of the whole cabinet is modern and elegant, with a distinct round runway shape, which is uncommon in mass-produced furniture.

ruhan chen has chosen resin panels instead of bent glass, mainly considering safety in domestic use. the interior is divided into four storage spaces, which can fit most electric appliances and books of any size. however, as most families no longer use DVD or amplifiers, the TV cabinet is more so used for decoration within the living room area.

the process of bending resin is very time-consuming: first of all, the linear texture of the surface is machined from a customized metal mold. after that, the whole panel is put into a high temperature of 120 degrees, in order to acquire its shape according to the pre-made wooden mold. finally, the material cools down, taking its form, and its is ready to be cut and punctured.

since it’s unbreakable and only half the weight of glass, resin is a friendly alternative material for customers who like transparent cabinets but have children at home. meanwhile, all resin panels are removable for easy packaging and transportation.

the wooden legs are both support structures and facade decorations. there is a 135 mm distance between the bottom wood panel and the ground, which can conveniently fit a cleaning robot to sweep in and out. in addition, there are 2 holes with an aperture of 90 mm on the back for electrical plugs.
