Residents have until June 30 to apply for grants to fund college or vocational education

The City of Wood Village, for the first time ever, is offering scholarships to help residents of the city continue their educations.
"We want to help our students get the education and/or vocational education necessary not only to become higher earners, but also come back to their home town after school to be homeowners and community leaders," Scott Harden, mayor of Wood Village said via email.
"We want to make an investment in the future success of our young people and our city. With the support of our council, this year's awards will become an annual program," he added.
The City of Wood Village Opportunity Scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to Wood Village students who wish to pursue higher education of any kind after high school or upon completion of a GED program.
The scholarships will be a minimum of $1,250, based on the needs of the student. The city plans to give as many as four scholarships.
The deadline for applications is Tuesday, June 30.
"I'd like to thank Wood Village City Councilor and former Gresham-Barlow School Superintendent John Miner to applying his education and scholarship experience to the process. I'd like to thank community partners Wood Village Baptist Church and Play East for promoting the program," Harden said.
