The Memphis bedroom by Martin Svensson Home has Mid-Century Modern design elements that are made casual and relaxed in nature through the use of mango veneers in a dry gray tone finish with dusty-white hangup in the visible wood grain.
HIGH POINT — Spring case goods introductions cover a broad range of styles often mixing open grain and, in some cases, distressed rustic finishes with clean contemporary lines.
The result is a livable look that continues to be popular among consumers of all demographics, but particularly among younger consumers seeking forms beyond traditional and glam.
A key example of casual rustic looks melding with contemporary lines is the new Rachael Ray Home collection at Legacy Classic Furniture, Murray Hall. Made with quartered white ash veneers, the 23-piece bedroom, dining and occasional collection comes in a silver gray finish, with bright nickel-finished hardware.
Meanwhile Legacy’s casual contemporary Cascade offers 10 pieces of bedroom and dining room that is made with flat cut elm veneers in grain bearing a sandalwood finish that is contrasted with soft brass accents.
Another example of casual, rustic contemporary is Martin Svensson Home’s Memphis collection. Made with mango veneers in a dray gray wood-tone finish with dusty white hangup in the grain, it has Mid-Century Modern design elements.
Drawers of case pieces are framed in satin nickel moldings which complements hardware. The same theme is repeated on a panel bed that has four nickel framed panels on the headboard and footboard.
At Brazil Furniture Group, the Mid-Century Rotta bedroom offers a similar rustic/contemporary aesthetic. Made with Brazilian Pine, it sports a graphite finish over clean lined cases and platform panel bed.
Clean-lined contemporary forms also combine with wood stories in Whittier Wood Furniture’s Bryce bedroom — made with American black walnut in a natural walnut finish — and Vaughan-Bassett Furniture’s Touché collection. It is made with solid American maple and birch and offered in three slightly distressed finishes: Artic Gray, Sunlight Natural and Peppercorn.
Country and European farmhouse looks also are popular as seen in collections at Emerald Home Furnishings and Riverside Furniture.
This is partly illustrated in the application of two-tone finishes in collections such as Emerald’s French country inspired Centerville collection, which is made with poplar veneers and African hardwood solids in an antique white finish contrasted with gray tops on case pieces and the European farmhouse influenced Anniston collection at Riverside. The two-tone look can be seen on the top of a round dining table shown in a Timeless Oak finish and on the base shown in a finish called Gray Skies.
Two-tone looks also can be seen new pieces and collections at Sarreid Ltd., Martin Svensson Home, Twin Star Home and Furniture Classics.
Meanwhile, American country design elements are seen in the Bennington bedroom by Fusion Designs. Made with solid rustic hickory in an Oatmeal finish, it offers a slatted panel bed with underbed storage as well as built in LED lights in the nightstands, combining both style and functionality in a short focused solid wood group.
The use of natural woven materials adds a further casual look and feel to the product selection this spring, particularly at resources such as Mainly Baskets Home. Its 20-piece Cape Collection by Sarah Bartholomew features a myriad of woven pieces including a dining table and several varieties of dining chairs and occasional tables.
Universal Furniture’s second licensed Coastal Living collection, Getaway, includes woven materials such as rattan and wicker, which can be seen on pieces such as panel beds as well as on table bases, chair backs and frames, and on the frame of a bed bench.
The materials story is further illustrated with marble, stone, metals and even Lucite that respectively form the tops and bases of dining and occasional tables and other accent items within larger collections.
Lucite, for example, is seen on the bases of tables and desks in the new Coastal Living collection with Universal Furniture, while tables with marble tops combine with metal bases for a modern design aesthetic at Decasa Marble and Diamond Sofa.
Relaxed traditional continues to appear in introductions including Vaughan-Bassett’s new Artisan & Post bedroom, Heritage, which comes in solid oak in Cobblestone and Graystone finishes and in solid cherry in an Amish Cherry finish.
Updated traditional forms can also be seen in other new collections at Legacy Classic, including its 24-piece Camden Heights bedroom, dining and occasional collection, made with poplar solids and acacia veneers in a Chestnut finish and its nine-piece Stafford bedroom made with poplar solids and rustic cherry veneers in a Rustic cherry finish.
