A brute was arrested after he bashed his girlfriend in the head with a piece of wood that had nails sticking out of it, sending her to the hospital in critical condition, police and police sources said Sunday.
James Fitzgerald, 53, was busted on an attempted murder charge around 6 p.m. Saturday just moments after he allegedly assaulted the 35-year-old woman, with a strip of wood in front of 94-15 150th Street in Jamaica, Queens, police said.
The wood was from from a pallet and had nails in it, police sources said. He also allegedly punched and kicked her in the head and body.
“He just walks up on her and starts beating her,” a police source said.
The woman, whom police identified as Fitzgerald’s girlfriend, was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in critical condition, cops said.
Fitzgerald, who was arrested a block away, has been arrested four times in the past for marijuana possession, resisting arrest, narcotics possession and turnstile jumping, a police source said. It was unclear whether he’d been convicted in any of those cases.
